Beleaf Burgers-Closed
Beleaf Burgers
4024 Grand Ave
Chino, CA 91710
909-517-3907
Beleaf Burgers is in the Cravings building, that used to be a Food 4 Less. They maybe the first vegan burger restaurant in Chino. They use the Impossible burger.
Cravings is owned by 99 Ranch Market. This building is split into two- a shopping area and a food court. There are about 15 or so food stands. But, everytime I've been there, it's not crowded at all.
Bedder Burger Classic Double-$12.75. Two impossible patties, lettuce, diced onions, pickles, carmelized onions, tomatoes, American cheese, on a toasted bun.
This was pretty good. The burger was very hot, with the cheese nicely melted. It was fine, but it really tasted like something anybody could make at home. There was nothing
Service is good. But, I called to ask where they are located, I didn't know they were inside Cravings, and they told me they were closer to a chain restaurant in the shopping center. I tried looking around there, but couldn't find it. So, I called again, and they finally told me it was inside Cravings. They should have told me it was inside Cravings in the first place!
Anyways, there are better vegan burgers, including the chain, Fat Burger, so I won't be back to Beleaf!

Honeybee Burger-Closed
Honeybee Burger
1820 N Vermont Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90027
323-452-6500
I have reviewed many restaurants in Los Feliz including Rocco's Italian Market and Deli, House of Pies Restaurant & Bakery, Palermo Ristorante Italiano , the now closed Tangier Korean BBQ of Tokyo, Little Dom's, Best Fish Taco in Ensenada, Ye Rustic Inn, Lucifers Pizza, 1739 Public House, the now closed Mexico City, Spitz, Cruzer Pizza, Anarbagh, and Fred's 62.
Honeybee opened about three weeks ago, it's right next door to the movie theater and a couple doors down from Fred's 62. It's a small, brightly lit space with a counter space on the right and tables on the left hand side.
Queen Bee, $12.95- double pattie with both the Beyond and Impossible patties, with house sauce, house made onion jam, lettuce, tomato, a thin ribbon of onion, and Chef Jo’s house made pickles.
This was outstanding!! Maybe the combination of the Beyond and Impossible burgers, made it the best vegan burger I've had!! Good flavor and textures, fresh toppings. A huge portion too. Well worth the price.
Service is good.
I would go back to Honeybee anytime! What a great vegan burger!

Veggietize Me
Veggietize Me
North Hollywood Vegan Street Fair
Veggietize Me is a vegan food truck that is always at the North Hollywood Vegan Street Fair. The faire is located just west of the Chandler and Lankershim. There are about 30 food trucks at the faire.
V-Mac $14.95- two impossible burgers, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, tomato, on a sesame seed bun.
I've had three vegan Big Macs- Doomies, Plant Power, and Organix. This is moved right to the top of the list of best vegan burgers I've had. This was outstanding. I liked the added touch of a fresh tomato. Everything tasted just like you were eating at the restaurant started by Dick and Mac McDonald, then stolen by Ray Krap, I mean Kroc of Shit!
Service is good. Veggietize Me runs promotions on their instagram account. So, give them a follow.

Plant Power Fast Food
Plant Power Fast Food
450 W Stuart Ave Ste D 130
Redlands, CA 92374
909-406-1655
I had the vegan Big Mac from Doomie's Home Cookin', which was great, and Organix, which was only ok. I heard about Plant Power Fast Food, a San Diego based plant based, fast food chain, that is just starting to expand. There are a couple locations in San Diego and they will soon open in Long Beach. This Redlands location opened in August of 2018.
Vegan Big Mac-$8.95- two all vegan patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles on a sesame seed bun. This was great! The patties, I'm guessing a soy mix, was great-tasted just like beef. The sauce, and cheese were spot on. Good bun and fresh veggies. Not only is this less expensive than the vegan Big Mac at Doomies-which does include fries, but at $18, it is much better tasting.
Service is good.
I would go back to Plant Power anytime!! I can't wait until they open in Long Beach, and hopefully they will open all over Los Angeles!

Fatburger-Closed
Fatburger
8790 Central Ave
Montclair, CA 91763
909-920-4417
Fatburger was a popular burger chain back in the 1980's. After some ownership changes, including Magic Johnson, Fatburger is trying to make a comeback in a very crowded burger market. Not only is iconic In N Out still the top burger chain in the LA area, but carpetbaggers like Five Guys, have come into the market.
I wanted to try Fatburger because they have the Impossible Burger! I'm not a big fan of the Impossible Burger, mainly because of their false marketing that does not tell the consumer that it is a GMO product!! I've tried the Impossible Burger at Umami in Anaheim, and Tony Dart's Away. I wasn't overly impressed with the taste from either one, but like Tony's better.
Impossible burger, $8.99. All burgers at Fatburger come with mayo, lettuce, onions, relish, mustard, pickles, and tomatoes. I asked for no onions. The burgers are made to order, so expect a wait. This was very good. A no frills burger. The pattie was a little too chard and salty, but otherwise a good way to make the impossible burger.
Service was good.
I would go back to Fatburger for the Impossible burger! This is the best way a restaurant has made the Impossible burger!

Plan Check Kitchen & Bar-Closed
Plan Check Kitchen & Bar
1111 Wilshire Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90017
213-403-1616
So Discover LA listed 5 great veggie burgers in LA in 2017. I tried two of them on the list-The Park and Burger Lords. But, I've was really looking for to going to Plan Check and try their Double Up Veggie Burger, which seems to have jumped from a frequent blackboard special, to being on the regular menu.
Plan Check is located just west of the 110 freeway on Wilshire. I figured parking would be bad, so I took the train and walked from 7th and Metro station to Plan Check. It's a dark gloomy restaurant at night. Very dim lights in the bar and seating areas.
Double Up Veggie Burger, $14. Veggie patties with portobello mushrooms, watercress, kale, garlic, cashews, yucca root, and breadcrumbs. Americanized dashi and Swiss cheeses, Crunchy battered onion strings, butter lettuce, and tomato mayo. The patties were a disappointment. I thought they would be nice and big from the picture from Discover LA. But, they are small and the burger is small. Decent flavor to the patties, but this was a pretty dry burger. They need to add more tomato mayo. The onion strings added nothing but bad flavor to this burger. This is not a vegan burger with the cheese and bread. This was an overpriced, underwhelming burger!
Service from the bartender was good. He was nice and friendly. But, the general attitude of the other servers and hosts were snotty, pretentious, douchebags!
If you like gastropubs with pretentious douchebags, Plan Check is perfect for you. I have no desire to return.

Organix-Closed
Organix
1731 Colorado Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90041
323-254-0284
I have reviewed many restaurants on Colorado Blvd. in Eagle Rock; Cindy's, Eagle Rock Public House, CaCao Mexicatessen, Meea's, Larkin's, Brownstone Pizza, both of them are now closed, Oinkster, Colombo's, Casa Bianca, Blue Hen- which recently closed. When I heard that Organix had the Mac Daddy, a vegan Big Mac, just like Doomies Home Cookin, I decided to make a trip to Eagle Rock.
Organix is located across the street from Meea's and a couple doors east of, the now closed, Blue Hen, in a strip mall next to a Chinese restaurant restaurant. It's really a vegan grocery store, that has been opened for six years. With Sprouts opening up about a mile away, I wonder how long the grocery store will stay open. But, Organix has a good sized vegan menu. There are vegan burgers, chicken, even fish, on the menu. There menu also says no substitutions or modifications. WTF is this? The vegan version of that jerk Sang Yoon and his overrated Father's Office?
Mac Daddy, $11, a la carte, bean pattie, special sauce, lettuce, vegan cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun! This was a very dry burger. The patties were mushy, and just the wrong texture. They have whole pieces of kidney beans in the patty. Why they left whole kidney beans, instead of mixing them up, I have no idea. While there was some vegan thousand island dressing, there wasn't enough. While this burger is huge, the taste and quality of the burger isn't there.
Fries, $3, I'm guessing frozen fries, but good portion and taste.
Service was ok. The guy at register just goes through the motions. He's not friendly or personable. He was on his phone most of the time I was there, only stopping to take my order and get my food.

Tony's Darts Away
Tony's Darts Away
1710 Magnolia Blvd
Burbank, CA 91506
818-253-1710
Tony's Darts Away is owned by the same people as Mohawk Bend, and while it's mostly a bar, they have a great menu, over half their items are vegan or can be made vegan! No, I am not vegan.
It's a fairly small bar with maybe six tables outside, a huge bar on the right and tables on the left. A pool table takes up the back room. It's a dark place and even with the music on low, it is loud because the acoustics are really bad there. A packed bar and people talking in normal voices, it just echoes and makes it a loud place.
Disco Fries-gravy and cheddar $7. This is could be vegan if you get the vegan cheddar cheese. But, since I'm not vegan I got the regular cheddar. The gravy is a mushroom gravy and full of flavor. If somebody tells you vegetarian or vegan food is flavorless, they just haven't been to the right place. The fries are cooked perfectly and the cheese is melted. I prefer getting the gravy on the side and dipping the fries in the gravy, with melted cheese it's awesome. A good dish and a steal at $7.
Donut-croissant bun, two impossible burger patties, vegan bacon, vegan provolone, BBQ Sauce, and frizzled onions.served w/ chips $17.
I had the Umami Burger version of the Impossible Burger, and thought it was ok. So, when I saw it on Tony's menu I decided to see how their version tasted. The major difference is the donut-croissant bun, which was different but good. It wasn't sweet but held up well to the burger The vegan provolone was awesome, good flavor and texture. The vegan bacon, I'm guessing seitan, was always very good. The BBQ sauce and onions added great flavor and texture to the burger. I like this version of the Impossible Burger better than Umami's!
Service is pretty good. You order at the bar. It says so on the menu. But, if you're just there for drinks and don't look at the menu, you won't know that. I was sitting outside waiting for my friend, there were only three tables taken outside, and one of the servers came by to clean off a table that had just finished. He saw me but didn't say anything! At least say something to the person sitting down, like you have to order at the bar! Otherwise, the bartenders who helped me and the runner who brought the food were fine.
I like Tony's Darts Away and I would go back.

The Library Alehouse
The Library Alehouse
2911 Main St
Santa Monica, CA 90405
310-314-4855
I went to the The Library Alehouse about two years ago. If I recall correctly I had the fish and chips and thought they were pretty good. I was in snotty Santa Monica and dropped in. The Library Alehouse is a galley style bar with the bar on the left and tables running down the length of the building. They do have a nice patio area in the back. Their sign says they have been opened since 1995!
Veggie Burger, $10.95 on Burger Monday, $13.95 regular price. The menu says the veggie burger is made with chick peas, but in addition I saw black beans and carrots in the patty. Sprouts, avocado, aioli with a green salad. This was an outstanding veggie burger!! One of the best I've ever had! Full of flavor, very good texture, and cooked perfectly! A steal at the Burger Monday price of $10.95. They could have added a bit more aioli, but otherwise a great veggie burger! I was hooked on the first bite!
Service was overall good. The bartender, I sat at a table, was serving the entire room, a few people at the bar and a couple tables were taken. So, it wasn't busy. She was nice, friendly, and I didn't really lack for anything. But, she never told me that it was Burger Monday. I saw the sign in the patio when I went to the restroom. Then I saw it on the back of the menu. When I was walking out the door, she didn't say thanks for coming. Little things make a big difference!
I loved the veggie burger and if I'm back in snotty Santa Monica, I will go back. I may try their vegan enchiladas!!

Burgerlords-Closed
Burgerlords
943 N Broadway Ste 102
Los Angeles, CA 90012
323-405-4012
Burgerlords was listed in the Top 9 best veggie burgers in LA by Discover LA. I already tired and loved The Park's veggie burger, so I was looking forward to trying other veggie burgers. But, when I read that Burgerlords is owned by the sons of the owner of Oinkster, I had some doubts. Why? About 3-4 years ago I tried the veggie burger at Oinkster and found out it was a veggie patty they bought at a store!! Not home made! But, I was near Chinatown and figured I would give them a try.
Located a few feet east of the Bruce Lee statue, Burgerlords is trying to copy In N Out or trying to be the hipster In N Out. The Chinatown location is a to go place, but there are a few tables. I don't know who is responsible for cleaning the tables, but they needed a good cleaning. So much trash on the ground nearby! You would never see that at In N Out!
Fries, $2.25. Their website says shoestring private reserve, Kennebec potatoes. I have a feeling there are frozen. But, they were cook very well and seasoned. I liked the fries, and the portion size is huge!
Vegan cheeseburger, $6.50. At least Burgerlords makes their own veggie patty! From their website:"made fresh, in house everyday. It consists of a custom blend of vegetables, grains & spices that includes nuts, gluten & soy. " I could taste and see barley, roasted mushrooms, eggplant, leeks, chickpeas, and cashews as Discover LA mentioned. This burger is very dry and flavorless. I wasn't impressed. Maybe if there were more of the vegan thousand island dressing. Hell, maybe just some salt and pepper. I wasn't impressed and thought the $6.50 price tag is way too high!
Service was fine. They were nice and the food came out quickly.
But, just as I was finishing my meal, I noticed they put this sign up in the window. WTF is that? What business worth a damn does that? There were three people working. Unless there is an emergency, then there is no reason to close the restaurant! There were at least six people waiting while this sign was up. I don't think this burger is worth the wait!
I wouldn't go back to Burgerlords again! If douchebag hipsters want to spend $6.50 for a veggie or beef burger, basically 50% higher than a double-double at In N Out be my guest. I'm not going back to Burgerlords!

Umami Burger - Anaheim- Closed
Umami Burger
338 S Anaheim Blvd
Anaheim, CA 92805

I recently found out about the Impossible Burger, a 100% plant based burger that is suppose to taste just like beef, and it bleeds too! I guess after a ton of research and money spent to finding a plant based burger that tastes like meat, the Impossible people found that heme is the key ingredient for the burger. In the back of my mind, I'm thinking this is engineered food, you know the GMO's that has every company putting Non GMO on their labels. Something that came out of a science lab!
Now, I'm not a fan of fake meats! I'll try it but if I wanted to eat meat I would just eat meat. I understand some restaurants are trying to attract people who maybe trying to eat healthy or if they are a vegetarian restaurant they will want to offer something to appeal to the meat eater in the group.
I've tried the veggie burger made with mushrooms and edamame patty, at the Umami in Costa Mesa and it was terrible. I noticed that they have replaced that veggie burger with a falafel veggie burger. Umami burgers are not vegetarian or vegan. They use a fish sauce in all their burgers, thus making it pescatarian. I have heard they use that fish sauce in the ketchup, but I can't confirm that. The bun contains eggs, which would prevent vegans from eating. They do not have diary-free cheese. But, they can make a vegan Impossible Burger.
Impossible burger $16, two Impossible Burger patties, caramelized onions, American cheese, miso-mustard, house spread, dill pickles, lettuce, tomato. The patties did taste a lot like beef, but there was a weird texture to the patty. A bit chewy and even if I didn't know this was a plant-based burger before, the first bite would have told me it wasn't a meat burger. It's ok, nothing great and I certainly don't think it's worth the price.
Service is ok.The hostess was nice, but when I walked in there were plenty of tables open but she went off to set up table and didn't come back for a few minutes. Then a guy, who turned out to be my server, asked how many, and I was seated right away. WTF was that hostess doing?? The server was nice, friendly, knowledgeable about the mean, and really helpful. When I ordered the Impossible Burger, he told me it is not vegetarian or vegan. Since, I'm pescatarian, I was fine with that. But, many servers have no idea about the menu. That's very poor training on the part of the management! Have the chefs tell the servers what is in the dishes! I don't care if the servers don't remember all the ingredients, and they need a "cheat sheet," just give me the damn correct information.
I only went to Umami to try the Impossible Burger. I won't return to either Umami or give the Impossible Burger another try.

The Park-Closed
The Park
1400 Sunset Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90026
213-482-9209
I found a listing of the best veggie burgers in LA by Discover LA, and noticed that The Park was listed. Hole in the Wall Burger, that I reviewed their beef burgers was also on the list. Since I've passed by The Park many times, I decided to give them a try! I was lucky to go on a Wednesday when it's Burger Night, when all burgers are half priced.
The Park is a small restaurant with some seating outside. I like sitting outside but since the restaurant is right on Sunset Blvd, it can be very busy!
Home-made veggie burger, regular price $11. Wednesday Burger night, $5. with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and pickle with fries. WOW, what a great veggie burger! The patty is made with lentils, sweet potato, bulgur, mushrooms, and breadcrumbs; and is just great. Nice texture, full of flavor. I did add some mustard and ketchup! I could tell this was really home made and not some store bought process crap. The patty held together pretty well, but you could see it almost break apart. I think that's a good sign because processed patties are held together by all sorts of crap. While a homemade burger has very few ingredients!
Service was friendly but a bit slow. I realize the sorry LA dodgers were playing that night, and many fans dropped in before the game. But, it took awhile for them to come and take my order, to bring the check, and to get change.
One thing though, the my total came to $5.45. I paid cash, a $20 bill, and got no coins as change. So I left $1 as a tip when added to the 55 cents, that's more than fair. But, when I counted my change later that night, I found that received $15 in change. I feel bad and the next time I go to The Park, I will make up for leaving a bad tip.
I would go back to The Park for their veggie burger anytime! It's a steal at $5 and a great burger at the $11 regular menu price.

Doomie’s Home Cookin’
Doomie’s Home Cookin’
1253 N Vine St Ste 9
Hollywood, CA 90038
323-469-4897
Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun! Yes, that is the line to the Big Mac theme song. I read that Doomie's Home Cookin' serves up a vegan Big Mac that tastes just like the real thing! Now, it has been over 5 years since I had a Big Mac. I remember always having a headache after eating a Big Mac, maybe for the special sauce.
Anyways I figured I would try Doomie's. I talked to two vegetarian friends; one liked Doomies and another doesn't like the concept of vegetarian restaurants trying make making vegetarians items taste like meat! I'm much more to the center when it comes to vegetarian food. While I loved the chicken wings at Bulan, I don't always seek out or order vegetarian meat items!
Doomie's is in a shopping center that has the address of Vine, but the store front is on Fountain! The shopping center has an Eastern European restaurant, which are are in LA. But, the restaurant had a C grade from the health department! The best part of the shopping center is that they have free parking! At least, it was free the Monday night I was there. No valets or paid parking. But, it is stacked parking, so make sure you don't get pull to the front parking space! Doomie's is a good sized restaurant with about 15-20 tables. It was busy the night I was there.
Vegetarian Big Mac, $14.50. This is not on their regular menu. Like In N Out Doomie's has a special menu, and you have to ask for it. The vegetarian Big Mac was huge! The patties were Quarter Pounder sized patties, not the small patties from McDonald's. It had everything a regular Big Mac has-special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions and a sesame seed bun! Now the important thing- it tastes exactly like a Big Mac! This version is filled with MSG, and it hit me right away. I got a headache too! This was good, but greasy and very heavy! I think the $14.50 price tag is high too.
The fries were frozen, which is disappointing! I expected home made fries!
Service is OK. The server wasn't the most friendly and even though they were busy it took them awhile for them to take my order, and bring my water.
I may go back to Doomies, but I won't make a special trip. Other menu items have a better price, but the vegetarian Big Mac is overpriced.

A couple doors down from Dupar's Restaurant, which used to be Hamburger Hamlet, is Veggie Grill. Veggie Grill is a chain plant based restaurant. There is no meat products in their food. You can enter Veggie Grill from the back parking lot or from Lake Ave. It's a good sized restaurant with a long section of tables for two, as you enter from the back and tables that can seat larger groups in the front. You order at the counter and your food is brought to you.
Crab cake sandwich, $9.95, Crispy ''crab'' cake, spiced tartar sauce, pickles, tomato, lettuce, red onion on a whole wheat bun, with a a choice of side, I got the tomato basil soup, which was more appealing than Yukon gold fries or cole slaw.
The crab cake is made with a soy protein and was indeed very crispy, with good flavor. Of course, it didn't have the same texture as a crab cake made with real crab, but this was good. But, they could have put more tartar sauce on the sandwich, it was fairly dry.
The tomato basil soup was seasoned perfectly and creamy.
Mac and cheese, $4.45. The macaroni was cooked perfectly. But, the "cheese" sauce was so chalky and dry. Not good at all. Portion size was very small and not worth the high price.
Service was good. I got my order quickly.
Veggie Grill is pretty good in my book. I won't rush back, but I wouldn't rule out going there if in the area. Though, I would not order the mac and cheese again.
Update August 22, 2017:
Beyond Burger, $12.95. Burger by Beyond Meat, American "cheese", grilled onions, house made sauce, tomato, iceberg lettuce, sesame buns. Beyond Meat is a 100% plant based, non GMO, veggie patty. In other words it's a better veggie burger than that genetically modified Impossible Burger from Umami! Veggie Grill has carried the Beyond Burger for about six months and is such a great seller, it now has a permanent place on their menu!!
This was very tasty, full of flavor, well seasoned veggie burger. The toppings were fresh. I really liked the thousand island house made sauce. It was so good, I almost ordered another burger!! It's a steal at $12.95 with your choice of fries or the soup.
Service was good. But, for whatever after I ordered they suddenly got a rush of people. They didn't handle it well, as some people were waiting a long time for their orders. Maybe somebody called in sick, but it seemed as though they were understaffed.
I loved the Beyond Meat burger and I like Veggie Grill, so I'll return soon!

My Vegan Gold-Updated Review-Closed
My Vegan Gold
4319 W Sunset Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90029

My Vegan Gold is in the same shopping center as Agra Cafe and Garage Pizza, at the very busy corner of Fountain and Sunset. The shopping center once housed the now closed, Tang's Donuts and Sandwiches, that served up a good sandwich for $5. Much better than the crap at Subway. In this shopping center there are Saito Sushi and Jay's Bar-which is suppose to have good food, that I could still try.
There is another vegan restaurant a few miles away, Sage, where the food is overpriced and the service is terrible. I went there once and will never go back!
Nacho cheese bomb fries, $4.95. I'm guessing these are frozen fries, but they were cooked perfectly!! Very crispy on the outside and soft inside. The nacho cheese was pretty good, a thick sauce, not sure how it's made, but came close to nacho cheese. I would order both the nacho cheese bomb fries or the regular fries again!!
Chow mein, $9.95, wheat yellow noodles, organic tofu, assorted veggies-cabbage, snap peas, carrots, onions, bean sprouts, and zucchini, in a garlic sauce. This was outstanding!! You won't miss the meat, because there is so much flavor in this dish. The noodles were cooked perfectly, the veggies fresh and crisp, the tofu-fried perfectly. Though the garlic sauce was a bit too sweet, it wasn't overpowering.
Service was ok. Though when I first got there, I waited at the counter and saw a man, who I believe is the owner, look at a lady and asked her what she wanted to order. Even though there were three other ladies in line ahead of her. It turned out two of three ladies were together, but the third lady, who was in line ahead of the lady that owner helped, got screwed. The owner should have asked who is next? But, the young lady who took my order and brought my food was good. Not overly friendly, but did her job.
I would go back to My Vegan Gold again. I like their food and the prices are reasonable, which is something that you can't say about all vegan or vegetarian places.
Updated Review October 5, 2016
I went back to My Vegan Gold to try one of their burgers. They have a portobello mushroom burger along with a plant based chicken burger.
My Vegan Gold Burger, $8.95 with side salad. If you're expecting a protein pattie, you'll be surprised. This is more like 3-4 pieces of protein that is topped with their great cashew nacho cheese sauce! There is lettuce, tomato, and a thousand island type dressing. The burger is good but the texture is a bit weird. The salad was mixed greens with a vinaigrette dressing.
Service was pretty good this time.
I like My Vegan Gold and will go back when I'm in the area.
