AYCE Sushi-Closed

AYCE Sushi
116 N Grand Ave
West Covina, CA 91791
626-966-4420

I found AYCE Sushi looking online.  I figured I would give them a try.  The shopping center is undergoing construction and AYCE is tucked in the corner with no outside sign!!  So, it can be tough to find, especially at night.

A pretty small restaurant that was packed on the night we went.

All you can eat is $25.95 for dinner.  A good deal since most rolls are $10.95 or more each.  I thought the rolls were smaller than other sushi restaurants, which is good, you can try different rolls.

Crab sushi

Shrimp sushi
Popcorn lobster roll-inside-avocado, crabmeat and cucumber.  Outside- deep fried crawfish.  It was ok, but if you're going to call it lobster put lobster in there.  Yes, I know crawfish and lobster are from the same family.  But, crawfish and lobster are different!

Salmon crunch roll-Inside- avocado, cream cheese, crabmeat.  Outside-slamon.  This was suppose to be deep fried.  It was deep fried but too soggy, as if the oil wasn't hot enough.

Shrimp tempura roll.
Side salad
Shrimp tempura- Frozen shrimp tempura that is deep fried and kept under heat lamps.  Not very hot or crunchy.  Very thin pieces of shrimp.

AYCE Roll-Avocado, spicy crabmeat, cucumber, shrimp tempura. Outside- salmon and tuna.

In N Out Spicy Roll-inside-avocado, crabmeat, cucumber and shrimp tempura.  Outside-spicy tuna and crunch.-  Pretty good but the spicy tuna isn't that spicy.

Soft shell crab- very small soft shell crab.  Crunchy, but very greasy.  Not a good item.

Service was good.   The servers were nice and friendly.  The rolls and sushi came out quickly.  Drinks were refilled quickly.

I would go back to AYCE Sushi, although I would get some of the rolls like the lobster popcorn roll or the roll I couldn't remember the name.  But, overall the sushi is pretty fresh and decent quality fish.  It's all you can eat, I'm not expecting prime grade sushi and if you are, you're an idiot!

AJ Barile’s Chicago Pizza Co

AJ Barile’s Chicago Pizza Co
32693 Yucaipa Blvd
Yucaipa, CA 92399

AJ Barile’s has been on my bucket list for a very long time, ever since I heard they won awards for best pizza!  The first thing to know about AJ Barile’s is that they are not a deep dish Chicago pizza.  Believe it or not there are pizza places in Chicago that do not make deep dish pizza.  In fact there are many good places in Chicago that serve thin crust pizza.

AJ Barile’s is located on a corner of a long street that is surrounded by houses, but very few businesses.  It's a very large restaurant with plenty of seating and well lit.  When I got there the degenerate steelers fans were crying in their beer after losing in the playoffs!!

Medium jalapeno and mushrooms pizza, $15.32.

This pizza was good, but not great.  If I were a judge at a pizza contest, I would not vote this in my Top 5, unless the other four were Domino's, Papa John's, Pizza Hut, and Round Table!  The crust was dusted with a very salty garlic power.  The crust was firm and chewy.  It wasn't like the huge New York thin crust, but just a regular thin crust.  The toppings were fresh and pretty plentiful.  There could have been a little more cheese.  The sauce was mild, not tangy or sweet, and pretty good.

Service is good!  Very nice and friendly!

When I realized I was going to pass by AJ Barile’s, I wasn't going to pass up an opportunity to finally give them a try! While I'm glad I did finally get a chance to try it, I'm glad I didn't make a special trip.; it's a good pizza, but not so great to make a special trip!

Tottie’s Asian Fusion

Tottie’s Asian Fusion
7901 E Thomas Rd
Scottsdale, AZ 85251
480-970-0633

So, I'm out in Arizona and a friend suggests we should go to Tottie's for dinner.  As you can see Tottie's is an Asian Fusion restaurant.  They have a large menu with Thai dishes and sushi.

It's a huge restaurant with booth seating on the sides and a bar in the middle.

Crunch roll, $5 happy hour price, $8, regular price.  This was pretty good.  But, the shrimp tempura wasn't that crunchy and the pieces were a bit small.

Shrimp chow mein, $11, carrots, green onions, bean sprouts and of course shrimp.  They use a thinner noodles than I'm used to.  But this was a very good dish.  The noodles were well cooked and lots of flavor.

Service is very good.  Our server was very friendly and came to our table often!  Drinks were refilled quickly and food arrived quickly too.

If I'm in Scottsdale again, I would go back to Tottie's.
