Seasalt Fish Grill

Seasalt Fish Grill
812 W 7th St,
Los Angeles, CA 90017
213-243-5700

LA Eater recently released their 18 best places to get fish and chips in LA.   I was looking forward to trying Seasalt Fish Grill.  I looked at their website and from this screenshot, taken July 29, 2018, they list their hours on Sunday from 11am-3pm.  I took a screenshot, because they could finally get a clue and update their damn website!

So, I'm near 7th St. and I call at 11:30am, just to make sure they are opened.  Nobody answers.  I call back 30 minutes later, samething, no answer.  Then I checked their yelp page, which lists their hours as closed on Sundays.

Why does the Seasalt Fish Grill yelp page have a more updated hours, than their official site?  Needless to say, I didn't go, since they are closed on Sundays.  I did call on Monday to tell them to update their website.  They have not responded to the email I sent.

Of course, Seasalt Fish Grill will be filed under terrible service!  They should have updated their website as soon as they changed their weekend hours.  It appears they have been closed on weekends at their 7th St. location for a while.  Yet, they never bothered to update their website!

TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!

UPDATE

At about 4pm on Monday July 30th, the owner of Seasalt Fish Grill replied to my email.  I read the email about 7:30pm.  He apologized for not updating their hours.  He offered to make up for wasting my time going there on Sunday!  He said that they are working to correct as he wrote the email.

Well, I checked their website and the hours STILL had not been updated, as this screenshot shows!!  And as I am writing this update, about 1:30pm on July 31st, I checked their website again and the hours STILL have NOT been updated!!

While I appreciate the owner trying to make up for his company's mistakes, there is something wrong with that company, if they continue to make mistakes.  Attention to details!  Updating the website with the current hours, isn't hard to do.  I have no idea when they changed the hours, but for them to still not have the hours updated, after the owner emailed me and said they would update their website, just shows me this restaurant doesn't pay enough attention to details!!  Sorry, but I'm not going to give this restaurant anymore chances!

Rock House Sliders-Closed

Rock House Sliders
7950 W Sunset Blvd Ste 103
Los Angeles, CA 90046
323-952-6016

Rock House Sliders- RHS for short, opened up about two weeks ago in the space that used to be Luca on Sunset-which was a nice restaurant with a good vegetarian menu.

It's a big space with the right part of the building the kitchen and the order counter.  The left part has tables spread throughout.

Veggie Burger-$4.89- Imposssible burger patty, lettuce pickles, and American cheese.  This is bigger than what most people would call a slider, but not as big as a regular sized burger.  It was fine, but for the portion and price, not a good value at all.  You can get a full sized Impossible burger at Fat Burger for about $10 and the portion would be double this.

Cheesy fries, $2.89.  The fries were cold, and the cheese sauce had a weird texture, as if too much flour was put into the roux, or at worse this is a powdered cheese sauce.

Service was ok.  The guy, who maybe the owner or manager was nice, helpful and friendly.  The cashier who was next to the guy, was just going through the motions.  Not friendly, not helpful-I asked if that Veggie burger was vegan.  She said yes.  I said what about the American cheese.  That's when the manager stepped in and told me they are working on a 100% vegan burger.  You get a pager and when it rings you pick up your food.  When I picked up my food nobody said thank you, or even acknowledged I was there.  Then there was a worker in the dining room and the entire time he was mopping the floor.  Must have been 45 minutes.  The room isn't that big.

Maybe they need time to work out the kinks, but this is a very pricey, small portion place and their claim to fame-being halal, isn't true for this franchise!  There is The Counter maybe 100 yards east and I doubt this was last too long.  But, I wish them the best.

Adana Restaurant

Adana Restaurant
6918 San Fernando Rd
Glendale, CA 91201
818-843-6237

As most people know LA Times food critic, Jonathan Gold, passed away on Saturday July 23, 2018.  I have been to a few restaurants in Gold's 2017 101 Best Restaurants in LA; Mariscos Jalisco, which started as a food truck and then opened a restaurant in Pomona, Langers, Howlin' Rays, Kogi, Parks BBQ, Jitlada, and Night + Market Song.  As a tribute to Jonathan Gold I picked a restaurant that I've never been to.  That's how I ended up at Adana.

A few blocks north of Continental Gourmet Sausage is Adana.  This is an industrial area of Glendale and while the outside doesn't look like much, the inside is very elaborate!!  Nice crown molding, a couple murals, and nice warm colors.  The tables and chairs scream banquet facility.

When it comes to kebobs in Glendale, my two go to places are Raffi's and Shiraz.  Let's see how Adana compares.

Salmon kebob, $24, with Persian salad and hummus.  The salmon, which looked overcooked, was pretty good.  A decent sized piece of farm raised salmon that was moist and flavorful.  The rice was bland.  The portion, both the salmon and rice, weren't as large as Raffi's and Shiraz!  I liked the hummus, very smooth.  The persian salad was fresh with persian cucumbers, tomatoes, and lemon juice and olive oil dressing.

Service was ok.  There was only one person working, and he had about five tables total.  There were plenty of times I didn't seem him in the dining room.  He never asked how everything was.  But, then again he was busy.

After going to Adana, Raffi's and Shiraz are still my go to places.  Nothing bad about Adana, but I think both Raffi's and Shiraz are better!

Sushi Monster

Sushi Monster
2426 Honolulu Ave
Montrose, CA 91020
818-249-2510

A friend who lives in Montrose told me that she goes to Sushi Plus, a place I reviewed back in 2007.  I was surprised to hear that Sushi Plus was still open. Not because Sushi Plus was bad, but with many restaurants didn't survive the recession!  But, I was shocked to find out that there are three other sushi restaurants on that street!! The other two are Blue Fish and Sake Sushi Bar and Lounge. In addition to Hikari Sushi about half a mile east, that is five sushi restaurants within a half mile stretch when Honolulu turns into Verdugo Blvd.

She liked Sushi Monster the best, so we met up there.

Blue fin tuna- $7.  A good sized piece of tuna, but kind of mushy and didn't taste too fresh.

Shrimp tempura roll $9.  A pretty small roll, but good fresh quality ingredients.

Spicy lobster hand roll-$7.50.  The best sushi I had here!  Fresh langostino lobster, good sushi rice, cucumbers.  This was a huge piece but the ingredients were light and fresh.

Service was pretty good.  There were three servers helping us.  We got our food promptly.  But, when we asked for the check, we got the wrong bill.  The correct bill arrives and they didn't include the lobster hand roll.  I would rather be honest and tell them that I wasn't charged for something.  It's a lot easier to do when the servers are nice, which all three were.  I still do the samething when the service is bad, but the thought has crossed my mind to just pay the bill and leave.

I would go back to Sushi Monster just for the spicy lobster hand roll!  I would go back to try other rolls.  I doubt I would try the blue fin tuna.

Nano’s Deli

 Nano’s Deli
2250 S Archibald Ave Ste C
Ontario, CA 91761
909-923-3354

Nano’s Deli has been opened for about two months.  Between a martial arts studio and a Lebanese restaurant, it's a good sized space.  The counter and prep area is to the right as you enter.  In front of the deli cases are different varieties of potato chips, some I've never heard of before.  There are about 10 tables and chairs and the drink dispenser on the left part of the space.

They use Boar's Head meats, and that is made known by the signs and the sticker that is on the paper wrapped around your sandwich.

Veggie sandwich, $6.99- choice of bread and two cheeses, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, and sprouts. I asked for no onions and mustard, with squaw bread.  This was a good filling sandwich.  The bread was soft, good texture, and the veggies were fresh.  Two slices of both cheeses. Everything was fresh.

Service is good.

This is such a great option for sandwiches in Ontario!  I saw about ten people who work at Niagara Water, so that must be close by.  I may give Alina's, the Lebanese restaurant next door, since David Allen gave it a good review!

Anarbagh

Anarbagh
4656 Franklin Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90027
323-660-8800

Anarbagh is a small sized Indian restaurant across Vermont from House of Pies, and just up the street from Fred's 62. Housed in a corner space next to a 7-11, there are booths to the right as you enter, then along the long space on the left, are tables.

Shrimp Biryani $13.95 Shrimp cooked with aromatic rice and flavored with saffron.  When I think of Biryani rice, it is very flavorful and gives off a wonderful smell.  But, sadly this shrimp biryani lacked bold flavor and wasn't any wonderful smell.  The rice and shrimp were both cooked perfectly.  It just lacked the bold flavors I'm expecting.

Service was very good!

A good Indian restaurant doesn't lack for flavor, so sadly I won't be going back to Anarhagh.
